Counselling and Psychotherapy

As a Counsellor and Psychotherapist, I believe that the relationship between the therapist and the client is the most crucial factor in supporting change within the client. This is called the ‘therapeutic relationship’ and applies to all forms of counselling. I believe that therapy can be unique in that it aims to create a safe space where clients can explore any issues they may have.

I work as an Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist. This means that I use a variety of approaches and modalities depending on what would be most useful, but all this comes second to the warm and trusting relationship I build with my clients. I have experience of Person Centred and Psychodynamic approaches, as well as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). I am also experienced in Motivational Interviewing, Coaching and Solution Focused techniques.

By focusing on building a strong relationship, I create a space where clients can work through their problems, even those problems that may bring unwanted emotions such as shame or fear. Some clients may be struggling with depression, or grief after losing a loved one. Others may come to learn how their relationships have developed from childhood to adulthood and whether this has caused issues for them at various stages in life. I will not judge you. None of us are perfect. And due to the relationship I build, counselling with me can offer genuine insight that can help change or facilitate new ways of relating outside the counselling room.

Online Counselling

I have had a great deal of success doing things differently, and many have spoken about the benefits of being in their own environment, and not having to worry about travel which comes with financial and time pressures.

I use a programmes called “Zoom” and “Skype”. I can also use other suggested programmes that you may feel more comfortable with providing they are secure.

All you would need to do is download either Zoom or Skype and sign up. I am very happy to talk you through this over the phone. If you are unsure, it isn’t as hard as it might seem at first. I have had a lot of success with using Zoom and Skype even with people who are not good on technology and initially did not think they could. Now they are video calling friends and family which is a skill worth having during this challenging and troubling time.

Please continue to read below to find out more about how I work as a relational counsellor who focuses on building and sustaining strong relationships with my clients so they can feel safe to speak to me about what is bringing them into counselling.
